Distance Learning

Out-of-State Online Program

Non-resident of Texas online students will matriculate under the Distance Learning Out-of-State Online Program. In the Distance Learning Out-of-State Online program, your tuition and other costs will be much less than what a typical non-resident/out-of-state student would pay. Many students, especially depending on their local school options, will save 40% to 50% in tuition and fees.

This chart is only for UTA Non-Texas Residents prospective students who plan to enroll in our BSW, MSW, or DSW Distance Learning Out-of-State Online programs (charges above include tuition and fees showing per course or scheduled credit hour (SCH) for undergraduate (UGRD) and graduate (GRAD) courses). To be billed correctly, Distance Learning Out-of-State Online students must enroll in the Distance Learning Out-of-State online course section for each of their classes.

Non-resident students who are enrolled in a distance learning course(s) (online) and are physically residing outside the state of Texas are charged a fee in lieu of Mandatory Tuition and Fees. The fee rate is equivalent to Tuition and Mandatory Fees for a Texas Resident enrolled in the same distance education course(s), plus an additional $20 per SCH. Some courses may have an additional Distance Learning Course Fee of $20 - $500 per course. See the table above. As a result of actions by the Texas Legislature to improve affordability in higher education, all resident undergraduate academic costs, including tuition, mandatory academic fees, all academic-related general fees, and college course fees, have been frozen for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years. Based on the student referendum, Resolution 24-03, “Renovate & Renew,” the student union fee will increase to $150 per semester, effective Fall 2024.

All other prospective students (face-to-face and Texas residents) should follow the UTA Tuition Estimator.

Our Program is Flexible and Convenient

  • Non-resident students must reside outside the state of Texas during their matriculation while completing the program online (synchronous and asynchronous classes available).
  • Non-resident students will complete their required practicum internship locally where they reside at an approved agency/organization.

Accreditation and Social Work Licensure

Graduates from our Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Accredited BSW and MSW programs are eligible to apply for Social Work licensure in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba. Our curriculum, through its compliance with CSWE’s Educational Policies and Accreditation Standards (EPAS), encompasses the content included in the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) three categories of master’s level licensure exams. These exams are accepted in all 50 U.S. states; Washington, D.C.; the U.S. Virgin Islands; and the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba in Canada. Certain locales may have additional requirements; this information is available from ASWB.

**It is the student’s responsibility to check with their state licensing board for any additional requirements such as taking a specific course, more field internship hours, or a character fitness/criminal background check. Prospective students should do this before applying, enrolling, and graduating.
