First-Generation Support Services

In partnership with first-generation advocates, UTA New Student, Transition, and Family Programs fosters an environment that prioritizes a positive and meaningful student experience. As a central hub, we provide both individualized and collective support for first-generation students and their families through mentorship, personal development opportunities, streamlined resources and services, and intentional programs and events.

We are committed to ensuring that first-generation experiences are recognized, valued, and integrated into the culture and climate of The University of Texas at Arlington and the Office of New Student, Transition, and Family Programs.

First-Generation Defined

First-generation college students are those who are the first in their biological family to attend a four-year college or university. This means that neither parent nor guardian has earned a bachelor’s degree from any institution.
