cody bekkering headshotCody Bekkering is an Innovation Manager for the University of Texas at Arlington. In this role, Cody facilitates technology evaluation and commercialization in UTA's exceptional scientific community. He works to identify pathways for broader societal impact for UTA researchers through strategic partnerships with players in the broader innovation ecosystem.

Cody is a scientist and an intellectual property professional. He authored twelve peer-reviewed scientific publications in disciplines including education, biochemistry, plant breeding, and phenotyping during his time managing academic research projects. Cody's prior experience in intellectual property includes service as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as an advisor to startup companies in plant biotechnology, as a tech transfer intern at the University of California, Davis, and as a student with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is also a registered U.S. patent agent.

Cody holds a PhD in Plant Biology from the University of California, Davis. He has also obtained an LLM in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Turin and WIPO. Cody also has bachelor's degrees in Plant Biology and Chemistry from Michigan State University.

Outside of work, Cody can be found jogging on quiet local streets or stubbornly (and sustainably) whisking around town on an electric scooter.
