Mental Health America of Greater Tarrant County cares about the mental wellness within the community. We strive to enhance mental health and improve the lives of those impacted by mental health.  We believe in building awareness and education in our community. We remain an independent nonprofit agency focused on mental health in Tarrant County. We are undergoing change as we determine what role we want to have in supporting mental wellness in our community.

For the last few years we have focused our work on supporting peers and the Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team, both in partnership with My Health My Resources (MHMR) of Tarrant County. We are committed to working with you, our partners and our donors to continue to support these important services in our community.

Tasks Available for UTA Students

  • Help advocate for the elderly and people with mental illnesses by becoming an ombudsman.

Working to preserve the independence and well-being of the senior neighbors in Northeast Tarrant County by providing rides for seniors to medical appointments and quality-of-life drives, assistance with minor home repairs and yard work, and holiday outreach.

General Service Needs

We are currently in need of volunteer drivers to provide rides either during the week or weekend. A typical drive includes picking a client up from his or her house and driving them to an appointment, the volunteer then waits for the appointment to conclude and then drives the client back to their home. We only ask that a volunteer dedicates three hours a month to providing transportation for seniors. We are also looking for office workers that can work one or two days a week from 8am to noon, and this position would entail answering phones and helping schedule clients.

Tasks Available for UTA Students

We need help with the above to areas, but students would also be able to participate in our Helping Hands program, which is a service that offers minor home repairs and yard work for seniors. We encourage groups to set up a time to come and work either for a single day or on a monthly basis.
