Community Engagement Opportunities

We are a non-profit program that provides an exciting science show-mainly chemistry based-for K-12 students to pique their interests in science and hopefully inspire them to study STEM subjects in higher education. Most of our presentations are done on campus, but we also participate in Family Science Night for many local elementary and middle schools.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
We would, potentially, like to expand our visitor base. Most of our events are for repeat customers. We would like to participate in more off campus events (particularly during the summer and slower times of the year) and get our name out there to schools beyond Arlington, Ft. Worth, and HEB ISD, which make up the majority of our visitors.

VolunteerNow represents over 1500 agencies in the DFW Metroplex with an average of 1000 volunteer opportunities posted each day.

The WARM Place is a grief support center for children and their families after the loss of a loved one. Evening support groups are available for kindergarten through high school children and their parents or guardians. Daytime eight-week group sessions are offered bi-annually for children ages 3-5.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Volunteers will facilitate counseling sessions. Volunteer training required (initial training 22 hours).

Webb Elementary School is a part of the Arlington Independent School District just north of the UTA campus, serving grades Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Volunteers would have the opportunity to mentor students on-campus once per week working with students in tutoring, reading, and playing games. Volunteers would also have the opportunity to serve in the on-site food bank and backpack distribution program on Thursday afternoons. Interested persons are asked to complete a volunteer application, however, no training is required.

At WiNGS we empower women, fight poverty and impact generations. We do this through our Nurse-Family Partnership, Finance & Career, and Women's Enterprise Center programs.

Wings of Hope was founded in 1996 to provide inclusion for those with disabilities, specifically for children and adults with physical, mental, or emotional challenges through the partnership of a horse. This partnership allows those with disabilities the opportunity to explore new ways to navigate independence, to gain tools and skills to sharpen and enhance abilities, to discover strengths and to address challenges. The partnership breaks down barriers for someone who has experienced isolation and exclusion through their disability. We serve as an advocate for meeting individuals where they are in life with a focus on abilities rather than disabilities.

We serve low-income families, children, youth, adults, seniors, and veterans. Wings of Hope is a faith-motivated organization. We are called to share and show compassion and we are called to love. We are open to all, and our programs have no religious content.

So often those impacted by our mission find that they do not have an outlet that allows them to be comfortable and confident with their disability. Frequently, individuals with disabilities state that life can revolve around a diagnosis, the label, and the stigma that comes with it.

Living in exclusion is not a livelihood any person or family should have to endure. Time after time we hear stories of how they are not able to play a team sport, they are not invited to birthday parties or included in typical childhood or adult peer networks.
Mission-

Wings of Hope's mission is to provide equine-assisted activities to children and adults with unique physical, mental, and emotional challenges. Each week equestrians attend an hour of lessons working on gaining tools to help in everyday life with a challenge or disability

Volunteers are the backbone of Wings of Hope Equitherapy. They help to ensure program safety and success by:
• groom and tack horses
• leading horses in classes
• side walking with a client- which aids the rider with balance and stability

• Side walking - walking next to the client and horse during their weekly lesson to assist however they may need.
• Leader- grooming, tacking, leading the horse during lessons

W.M. Green Elementary is a public elementary school that supports students, families, and staff through education and community engagement in the Fort Worth area.

Volunteers are needed to assist with school events that bring together students, families, and the broader community.

Created in 2002, WDP is a statewide membership ­based workers rights organization that builds power for construction workers in Texas. WDP is one of the few organizations in Texas working to address workplace abuse faced by low­ wage workers. One of the most established worker centers in the South, WDP is a national leader in the movement of worker centers fighting for fair conditions for working people. WDP has won numerous awards and accolades for its cutting edge organizing work in one of the toughest climates for workers in the country.

The organization was named “one of the most creative organizations for immigrant workers in the country” by the New WDP’s Employment and Legal Services program uses a wide range of legal, administrative, and community ­based tactics to assist low­ wage workers to recover owed wages, seek redress for legal violations on the work site, and prepare for and apply for certain forms of immigration relief.

General Service Needs
Work with the Employment and Legal Services program to assist low­-wage workers to resolve wage claims and access other needed services. Interns will also participate in know your rights trainings, community outreach efforts, direct actions, and other ongoing organizing and research. Typically Tuesdays from 7-9pm is the time most volunteers are needed since our weekly member meeting takes place that night, along will all the legal case intake.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Students can assist during case intake, case meetings, translating (mainly Spanish), assisting during direct actions, administration and data intake.

At the Y, strengthening community is our cause.
