Community Engagement Opportunities

Project Access is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization that operates Family and Senior Resource centers at over 60 properties across 10 different states. Our newest site is located in Euless, Texas. Project Access provides on-site health, education, and employment services to low-income families, children, and seniors. Our goal is to give low income families the tools needed to break the cycle of poverty, become healthier, further educated and financially stable. Project Access transforms community centers in apartment communities into fully operational resource centers. Our centers serve as "community hubs" that provide families and seniors with the resources needed to thrive. This unique model of service delivery allows Project Access to directly impact the lives of underprivileged families. Project Access' key initiatives include health and wellness, economic stability, community building, and education for youth.

General Service Needs
Project Access is seeking volunteers to primarily assist with the ASP program (after-school program). Duties may include assisting with tutoring, homework, arts and crafts, and other after-school activities. Volunteers will be needed occasionally for community-building events which may include, holiday parties, health fairs, and other occasional community building events.

Proyecto Inmigrante Immigration Counseling Services, Inc. is committed to serve, inform and assist the immigrant community in matters concerning immigration and education. Our agency is recognized and accredited by the U.S. Department of Justice with offices in the cities of Dallas, Fort Worth and Wichita Falls Texas.

Through our legal representation programs and immigration counseling services centers, we have made a positive impact on the lives of thousands of low income families in our community affected by the inefficient immigration laws. We have served over 50,000 immigrant families from over 55 countries, regarding of their nationality.

INTERNSHIPS: Currently, Proyecto Inmigrante ICS, Inc. is able to offer non-paid internship positions to students of Translation, Interpreting, Mexican American Studies, Anthropology, U.S Government, and Marketing. Each student will have the opportunity to practice a set of employable skills with our internship programs as specified below:

Reading Partners mobilizes communities to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by third grade.

We know that reading is the foundation for all future learning, and the ability to read transforms lives and empowers children and communities to reach their full potential.

That’s why we partner with under-resourced schools and engage volunteer reading partners to work one-on-one with students who struggle with reading.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Volunteers give an hour of their time each week to work one-on-one with the same student in grades K-3 to help them meet their literacy goals.

More than simply reading with a child, our volunteers follow a proven, structured curriculum to help students learn specific skills necessary to become proficient readers. It’s simple, and it works. Each lesson comes with step-by-step instructions and materials. A trained site coordinator is always available to answer questions, assist with the materials, and solve problems.

Refugee Services of Texas, Inc. is a not-for-profit social service agency guided by principals of human compassion and dignity committed to providing quality services for refugees and other displaced persons. Working in partnership with faith based communities, businesses and volunteers, we provide our clients with resources, referrals, education and guidance to ensure their successful and self-sufficient lives in Texas. The home office was established in Dallas over 30 years ago with sites now also in Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, and Amarillo.

General Service Needs
Volunteers are needed to assist with apartment set-up for new arrivals, English and literacy instruction for all ages, client transportation, donation collection and distribution, fundraisers, and administrative duties. Volunteer training is provided.

Resource Center is a trusted leader that empowers the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities and all people affected by HIV through improving health and wellness, strengthening families and communities and providing transformative education and advocacy.

The Vision of Resource Center is to be a nationally recognized leader whose services ensure physical, emotional, and social health, and equality, understanding, and acceptance for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and HIV communities.

While the Center employs paid staff, the mission of the Center could not be achieved without people like our volunteers and interns. The talents, skills, time and energy donated by our volunteers are a valued resource. More than 1,100 community members each year donate their time and talents to the Center. Whether it’s serving meals, answering phones, designing a brochure, or helping at fundraising events, volunteers enable the Center to provide superior service to the community. You must be at least 18 year's or older to volunteer at the Center.

Once your application has been submitted, the volunteer coordinator will contact you as needs arise. You must attend volunteer orientation and Diversity & Culture class within six weeks of starting to volunteer. Volunteer orientation takes place at Resource Center' Community Center building at 5750 Cedar Springs Rd., Dallas 75235.

RHF provides housing and services to more than 22,500 older adults, low-income families, and persons with disabilities.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Translating for residents with language barriers during programs/events offered. Spanish and/or Korean.

Assisting in promoting socialization by providing companionship while at our community.

The mission of River Legacy Foundation is environmental education and conservation. Evolving from this mission is the Living Science Center, which provides educational opportunities for both youth and adults with hands-on interactive experiences with nature.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Some of the volunteer opportunities include: Information Desk Ambassador, Animal Care, Workshop Assistant, and different unpaid internships available as well. In addition, Special Events Volunteers are needed to facilitate activities related to nature during our festivals, and for concessions, set up, breakdown concessions, as well as mailings. Volunteer training required for our once a week volunteer opportunities and orientations for our special events. Volunteers should expect to broaden their knowledge of nature; meet other people who share their interest in nature; gain perspective and vision of the professional world; satisfaction in knowing that one has contributed to a better quality of life for themselves, their communities and future generations.

The Roseland Boys and Girls Club sees around 60 kids from the local community. We present a lot of programs such as Power Hour (homework help), Triple Play (sports) and Career Launch (career prep) for our members.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
We are in desperate need of committed homework help. We do have a tutor who comes in Mondays and Wednesdays. We need volunteers who can commit to coming in 1x a week to help out with homework-preferably 4:30p-5:30p. We have kids 6-12 who face reading and math challenges daily.

Also, we have a Math Blazers contest coming up in April. We are looking for volunteers who are innovative and creative in their approaches to helping our 9-14 age group learn and grasp math. Details about this contest can be provided at a later time if needed.

Rowlett Friendship has a food pantry providing food, clothing, and essentials to needy children, adults, and seniors on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm.

General Service Needs
We are in need of volunteers at the Food Pantry on Friday, November 13, 2020 and December 11, 2020 from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm to help with unloading and 5 pm to 7 pm for prepping and preparing food boxes.

Volunteers needed for fundraising event at At&t Stadium working the concession stands at Dallas Cowboy games and other events. Proceeds are for needy families affected by Covid-19.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Need 25-30 volunteers to work the concession stands at At&t Stadium in November and December. (Event schedule can be provided if interested).

SafeHaven of Tarrant County is the state designated domestic violence provider for the county. SHTC works to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention, and social change.

General Service Needs:
Assistance in all variety of emergency shelter, development, administrative, social enterprise, fundraising and other non-profit management services. General organizational and tangible support. Creative ideas from students and faculty are welcome!

Very open to creative suggestions from faculty and students. Some particular engagement skills and projects needed include: -Trauma Informed Care -Community garden design and implementation -Children's activities support -Administrative support -Fundraising and donation drives -Support through art, floral design, or other creative ventures
