The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. We are the voice for all blood cancer patients and we work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

Since 1935, Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth has been the beacon of hope for children, youth and adults who are blind or have significant low vision. Our mission is to empower individuals who are blind through superior training, meaningful employment, one-on-one specialized training and client services so they can lead full lives with the highest level of independence and quality of life.

General Service Needs
Home Visitor – Assist Lighthouse clients with grocery shopping, mail reading, letter writing, and running errands. Commitment: 2 – 4 times a month

Telephone Reassurance – Call homebound Lighthouse clients to provide friendship. Commitment: 2 – 4 times a month

Lighthouse CCTV Loaner Program – Assist in the delivery of donated CCTVs to Lighthouse clients. Commitment: 2 – 6 times a month or as needed by Client Services

Transportation Driver – Provide transportation to Lighthouse clients and/or staff for Lighthouse activities and appointments, running errands and medical appointments. Commitment: 2 – 4 times a month and as needed

Special Events – Assist with Lighthouse events ranging from monthly classes to holiday parties. Commitment: Varies depending on event needs

Literacy Achieves is dedicated to improving English literacy levels among non-English speaking adults and their young children by providing programs in communication and life skills. We do so in the belief that the ability to understand, read, write and speak English contributes to independence, productivity and the overall well-being of the learners, their families and the greater community.

Literacy Achieves provides free educational programs for approximately 1,000 adults and 200 preschool children who reside in two low-income, highly diverse areas in Dallas. Literacy Achieves relies on more than 200 weekly volunteers as teachers, and collaborates with other organizations to provide its students with the services they need to become permanently self-sufficient.

General Service Needs

  • Teach English to non-English speaking adults.
  • Volunteer 2 hours a day once a week Monday - Thursday
  • Literacy Achieves offers morning, afternoon and evening classes. All classes are co-taught; training & curriculum are provided.
  • No foreign language experience needed. Minimum age to volunteer is 18.

Lunch Box of Love is an Arlington-based nonprofit organization that believes in helping less fortunate people in their time of need. As so many found out recently, life can change in the blink of an eye. A job can be lost, and people get displaced. For those people, Lunch Box of Love is there to reach out a helping hand. We see a need, We act to meet that need.

Feeding the Homeless, disadvantaged families, giving out school supplies, every Tuesday and Friday we distribute already put together Produce boxes.

Magnolia Hospice offers medical care toward a different goal, maintaining or improving quality of life for someone whose illness, disease or condition is unlikely to be cured.

There is no greater gift than the gift of presence. Someone to walk beside. We offer training and then assign you a patient that lives near you.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Most of our volunteers visit their patients once a week for about an hour. Volunteers visit, read, play games, play music etc. No hands on just being a friend.

The Mansfield Mission Center empowers people on their journey to economic self-sufficiency through programs and services designed for whole person wellbeing: physical, financial, and relational.

The Linda Nix Clinic provides free medical, dental, and vision care for uninsured adults. All care is provided by volunteers.

The Mission Center provides food and nutrition education (through an innovative neighbor choice market), financial coaching and financial assistance, employment coaching and services.

The Thrift Store receives, prices and sells donated items. All funds support the work at the Mission Center and Linda Nix Clinic. Additionally, neighbors in need receive vouchers to shop at the store for needed items at no cost.

Tasks Available for UTA Students
Mission Center - (1) Mission Market - assist staff with donation pick ups, unload donated items, weigh, sort, and stock items, and assist neighbors with shopping in the market (2) Employment - assist neighbors with job search, updating resumes, and mock interviews (3) Administrative - reception area volunteers welcome neighbors and assist with paperwork and answering the phones

Thrift Store - (1) Receiving - assist staff with picking up items from donor homes or unloading vehicles when donors bring items to the store (2) Processing - assist with one of our back room processing and pricing teams, including clothing, housewares, boutique, electronics, toys, shoes, and more. (3) Sales Floor - assist customers with dressing rooms, general needs, and operate cash registers or serve as a bagger.

Maroon 9 Community Enrichment Organization is committed to empowering underserved teens through theater arts by offering free, year-round out-of-school programs that promote creative expression and help deter juvenile crime.

General Service Needs
Support is needed to fund the 2024–2025 Enrichment Season, covering program expenses such as meals, snacks, arts and crafts supplies, costumes, transportation, and activity costs.

Volunteers are needed on performance days to help with front door ticket sales, box office duties, and welcoming guests during the culminating live productions at the end of each Teen Enrichment Program.

Meals on Wheels, Inc. provides nutritious lunch along with care and compassion to the homebound elderly and disabled in your area.

General Service Needs
Volunteer drivers are always needed to deliver noon meals and be a contact with the outside world. Volunteer orientation is offered twice a month and requires only 1 1/2 hours of your time.
