Faculty Mentoring at UTA
The Faculty Mentoring Program at UTA is grounded in a culture of collaboration, respect, and mutual growth. Mentoring is seen as a shared journey - one that supports faculty in their teaching, research, and professional development while strengthening the collective spirit of our academic community.
Faculty mentors and mentees are encouraged to bring openness, curiosity, and intentionality to the relationship. New faculty are paired with colleagues whose research and/or teaching interests align, while project-based mentoring is available to all faculty seeking short-term, targeted support. Together, these opportunities create space for meaningful dialogue, idea sharing, and professional growth across and within disciplines.
Framework
The Faculty Mentoring Program at UTA draws on a hybrid framework that combines one-to-one, project-based, and community/network-based approaches. New faculty are paired with mentors whose teaching and/or research interests align, providing personalized guidance during their early career journey. In addition, project-based mentoring offers all faculty short-term, targeted support on specific initiatives, ensuring flexibility and timely expertise. The program also emphasizes building a cross-disciplinary community of mentors and colleagues. This network-based approach is particularly valuable for faculty whose departments already provide internal mentors, as it expands opportunities to connect beyond departmental boundaries, share ideas, and build collaborative relationships. Together, these complementary frameworks create a supportive environment where faculty can grow, thrive, and contribute to the broader UTA community.
Guiding Principles of the Mentoring Program
By living out these principles, the Faculty Mentoring Program fosters a strong network of support where faculty are connected, engaged, and equipped to achieve their goals while contributing to the broader UTA community.
