M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction – Mathematics Education (100% Accelerated Online)

Program Overview

Our Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction – Mathematics Education* is a non-thesis, 100% accelerated online degree that prepares our graduates to analyze their own teaching and make adjustments where needed. Students will also gain an understanding of the overall state of education and the link between the theory and practice of teaching. 

The online M.Ed. in C&I – Mathematics Education emphasizes teaching mathematics to K-12 students, using problem-based, inquiry-based teaching strategies consistent with mathematics disciplines and centered on how people learn. Math content is emphasized in the context of how to teach that content to students.

The UTA education program also addresses issues that impact learning, providing tools for educators on topics such as:

• scientific misconceptions/alternative conceptions
• logical-mathematical
• scientific reasoning, and motivation

Designed for Mathematics Educators

The mathematics education specialization is designed to provide practicing teachers with current findings in research and best instructional practices in mathematics education. The 30-hour degree includes core courses in curriculum design, instructional strategies and diversity in education. Also included are courses in education research methods and a concentration in mathematics or mathematics education.

This online M.Ed. program is designed for teachers in K-12 school settings, as well as for curriculum developers and coordinators, district content specialists, and those in a variety of alternative educational settings such as museums, zoos, nature centers and corporate education/outreach divisions. In addition, their relevance for students in elementary through high school age ranges, the program strategies and content can be applied in early childhood, college and adult education where mathematics learning is emphasized.

Individuals holding a bachelor's degree at an accredited university in any field of study are eligible to apply.

 

*The M.Ed. in C&I – Mathematics Education is a master's degree program only and does not lead to initial teacher certification in Texas. Individuals interested in obtaining teacher certification or licensure should consider our Initial Teacher Certification program or our M.Ed. in Special Education with certification.

• Explore science philosophies alongside best practices for teaching science to students of all ages and abilities.

• Analyze how students learn, how they develop logic and reasoning, and how you can teach to promote meaningful learning within the mathematics field. 

The program can be completed in as few as 18 months.

Qualified students admitted to UTA's designated accelerated online Master of Education degree programs are eligible to receive a Tuition Scholarship. No separate scholarship application is necessary. The scholarships will be offered to eligible students who are accepted into a designated program. The scholarship is for the first semester of the program, but is renewable for students who earn grades of B or better in all courses.

Texas Residents

The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction – Mathematics Education does not lead to licensure/teacher certification in the state of Texas.

Out-of-State Residents

Out-of-state students seeking certification in their home state must review the requirements for licensure with their state education agency to determine if completion of the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction – Mathematics Education will lead to licensure in their home state.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires candidates seeking certification to complete all practica in a TEA-approved site. Out-of-state students who do not complete the practicum at a UTA College of Education and TEA-approved site and meet all other TEA requirements do not qualify for Texas educator certification. If seeking certification outside of Texas, please work with your state agency in the state in which you are seeking certification to determine eligibility and to complete any additional requirements. Please note that after successful completion of your UTA College of Education degree, you may request a memo indicating your degree completion. UTA cannot recommend out-of-state students for certification and cannot recommend out-of-state students to take Texas certification exam(s). Additionally, UTA faculty and staff cannot complete out-of-state form requests for individuals seeking certification, licensure, and/or endorsements in another state according to TEA.
