Transition Programs and Services

The Office of Transition Programs facilitates the successful transition of Transfer Students, First-Generation College Students, and Off-Campus Mavericks (OCM) students that commute to campus and/or are enrolled in a remote degree program.

  • Locate a Diaper Bank near you that distributes diapers to families in need.
  • Locate Behavioral Health Treatment Services near you, including substance abuse, mental health, and veteran services.
  • Treatment Referral Routing Service: 1-800-662-4357 for confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family
         members facing mental health and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations.
  • Locate HIV/AIDS care services near you.
  • National Runaway Safeline: 1-800-786-2929 provides support to at-risk youth and their families 24 hours a day through phone, email, and live chat.
  • Locate a Runaway and Homeless Youth Program near you for emergency shelter, transitional living program, or street outreach program for runaway or homeless youth.
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233 is available 24/7 to talk confidentially with anyone experiencing domestic violence, seeking resources or information,
         or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship.
  • Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-422-4453 is available 24/7 to talk confidentially with anyone experiencing child abuse, seeking resources or information,
         and referrals to thousands of emergency, social service, and support resources.
  • Disaster Distress Helpline: 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746 provides crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to natural
         or human-caused disasters.
  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255 is available 24/7 to confidentially provide counseling services at a crisis center in your area.
  • National Human Trafficking Resource Center: 1-888-373-7888 is available 24/7 to confidentially provide help to victims of human trafficking.
  • 211 Texas is a free, 24/7 statewide information and referral service that connects Texans with a wide range of community and social services like finding food pantries,
         emergency shelter, rent assistance, utility bill assistance, child care, and senior services, among other things.
  • DOL’s Employment and Training Helpline: 1-877-872-5627 provides information for job seekers, workers, and employers on employment and training.
  • Workforce Development Board Locator provides local job centers where job seekers can get employment information, find out about career development
         training opportunities and connect to various programs in their area.
  • The American Job Center Finder provides local job centers that help job seekers find jobs, training, and answer other employment related questions.
  • DOL’s Employment Training page provides a short-term training finder, an education and training finder, a Certification Finder, links to Apprenticeship programs, financial aid,
         and much more.
  • Unemployment Benefits Finder provides information about filing for unemployment benefits by state.
  • Job Corps Helpline: 1-800-733-5627 provides information about this education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED,
         and find and keep a good job.
  • Help for Homeless Veterans Helpline: 1-877-424-3838 provides 24/7 access to VA’s services for homeless and at-risk Veterans.
  • Veterans.gov provides employment opportunities for veterans including job postings, local career centers, and online self-assessments.
  • Locate a VA Medical Center for medical care.
  • Locate a Community Resource and Referral Center near you that provides Veterans who are homeless and at risk of homelessness with one-stop access to community-based,
         multiagency services to promote permanent housing, health and mental health care, career development and access to VA and non-VA benefits.
  • Veterans TRiO Upward Bound is a free program that helps qualified veterans build the academic skills and support needed to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

  • The Help Center Arlington provides Counseling services and resources for HIV/AIDS and the LGBTQIA+ community as well as other services such as PrEP and
         health insurance assistance for PrEP patients.
  • Safehaven is an intimate partner violence/ domestic violence program with resources for survivors, children, and offenders.
  • Arlington Life Shelter provides emergency shelter, case management, and support services to help individuals and families transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
  • Metrocrest Services offers food, financial assistance, employment support, and senior services to prevent homelessness and promote independence in the North Dallas area.
  • Mission Arlington delivers free food, clothing, medical care, and spiritual support to individuals and families in need throughout Arlington, Texas.
  • UnboundNow open 24/7, provides short-term emergency shelter and counseling for youth up to age 22 who have recovered from trafficking, while also connecting them
         with resources for long-term residential support.
  • The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition coordinates housing and services for people experiencing homelessness in Tarrant and Parker counties.
  • Transition Resource Action Center (TRAC) provides support, housing, and life skills training to youth aging out of foster care to help them transition successfully into adulthood.
  • DFPS provides resources for former foster youth.
  • Texas Foster Youth provides a guide to aging out with links and resources.
  • Supervised Independent Living (SIL) is a voluntary extended foster care program that allows young adults to live independently while receiving case management and supportive services.
  • International Student Foundation Texas (ISF) supports former foster youth and international students through scholarships, mentoring, and leadership development.
  • The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged
         backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted at serving and assisting low-income individuals, first-generation students, and individuals with disabilities to progress
         through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.
  • Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) provides free support to economically disadvantaged adults in Tarrant and Dallas County, helping them pursue Adult Basic Education,
         High School Equivalency, or enroll in college, university, or vocational programs.
  • Tarrant County College offers a variety of study programs leading to vocational and technical certification programs, as well as associate degrees. In addition, they provide
         English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and GED preparation classes throughout the Tarrant County community.
  • Dallas College offers a variety of study pathways leading to vocational and technical certification programs, as well as associate degrees. In addition, they provide English as a
