Hazing Prevention

Hazing Notice for UT-Arlington Students

Under Texas State law, individuals or organizations who engage in hazing could be subject to fines and charged with criminal offenses. Hazing is strictly forbidden at UTA. Students or organizations who participate in hazing will be subject to discipline under the Student Conduct and Discipline Policy (SL-SC-PO-01) or Discipline of Student Organizations Policy (SL-SO-PO7), respectively.

According to state and federal law, a person can commit a hazing offense not only by engaging in or submitting to a hazing related activity, but also by soliciting, directing, encouraging, aiding, or attempting to aid another in hazing; intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly allowing hazing to occur; or by failing to report firsthand information that a hazing incident is planned or has occurred in writing to the Vice President for Student Affairs or Dean of Students office.  The fact that a person consented to or acquiesced in a hazing activity is not a defense to prosecution for hazing under this law. For a complete definition of hazing and of what constitutes a student organization, visit the Hazing Policy page.

Hazing Prevention Committee

The UTA Hazing Prevention Committee (HPC) was created in the spring of 2025 in response to the passage of the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act. With the passage of this act, the Office of the Dean of Students recognized a need to develop a more holistic approach to hazing awareness and prevention. The HPC is comprised of committee members from across campus to develop monthly programs, events, educational opportunities, and resources, including marketing and awareness elements, for the entire UTA community. By involving the whole community in events that are impactful and educational, it is the hope of the HPC to proactively combat hazing concerns, while reframing the hazing conversation around respect, gratitude, and integrity. If you are interested in learning more about the HPC and its programming efforts, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students.
