Dissertation Lab

What is D-Lab?

The Graduate School offers a Dissertation Lab (D-Lab) to help students progress through the challenging process of writing their dissertation. Over the course of two days, the D-Lab furnishes support for focused and productive writing. The program provides participants with the structure and motivation to overcome typical roadblocks in the dissertation process. Our goal is to assist each participant in making significant progress towards completing their dissertation. 95% of students who attended at least one Dissertation Lab have completed their degree.

Is D-Lab Right for You?

This program is designed for students who have completed their dissertation research and/or data collection and analysis. The D-Lab provides participants with:

  • Focused time for writing
  • Advice for setting realistic goals, overcoming writing blocks, and time management
  • Resources and advice for limiting stress and staying motivated
  • Networking and support from fellow dissertation writers
  • On-call personalized feedback from a graduate writing consultant

Accepted participants must be prepared to write and agree to attend both days of the on-campus program in May. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to accepted participants.

Application Procedure

Interested students must submit a completed online application by 11:59 p.m. on May 1, 2026.

Participants will be selected based upon time to degree completion and the connection between the student's workshop goals and the timeline for completing the dissertation.
