Health Insurance Requirements
The University of Texas Board of Regents has passed Regents Rule 50402, which now requires only F1, F2, J1, J2 students who are currently enrolled at UT Schools to have medical insurance compliant with the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The UT-Student Health Insurance Plan (UT-SHIP) meets these requirements.

The cost of insurance for Fall ONLY is $1,306.00. Effective coverage period begins August 15th, 2025 through December 31st, 2025.
Spring/Summer 2026
The cost of insurance for Spring AND Summer is $2,132.00. Effective coverage period begins January 1, 2026 through August 14, 2026.
You cannot waive just the summer coverage when you enroll for spring courses; the Spring and Summer semester insurance cost is combined.
Please be advised that, even if you do not plan to enroll in classes for the summer semester, you are still an enrolled student at UTA, and as such, you are required to have health insurance as part of maintaining your F-1 status.
If you want to waive the insurance for summer only, you will need to waive Spring and Summer together when the waiver submission period opens. This means that you will need to maintain coverage for both the Spring and Summer semesters.
Summer 2026
The cost of insurance for Summer ONLY is $864.00. Effective coverage period begins May 15, 2026 through August 14, 2026.
Note: students who enrolled in classes for the spring semester cannot waive the summer insurance because the spring and summer semesters are combined
