Guest speaker Dr. Ken Rothfield, chief quality and medical officer at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, will discuss concepts of patient safety science. Great for pre-health students; all students are welcome to attend. Food will be served.
Masoud Rostami, UTA assistant professor of instruction in mathematics and data science, will lead a discussion about AI in science. Artificial intelligence isn’t just ChatGPT; AI has been quietly embedded in daily life and scientific research for decades. This talk will explore how AI supports scientific discovery across disciplines, from analyzing laboratory data and images to monitoring environmental and health systems. It will also highlight everyday technologies you may not realize rely on AI. The presentation emphasizes AI literacy and critical thinking, showing why the future isn’t humans versus AI, but humans working with AI by asking better questions and making informed decisions. Food will be served.
Join the COS and the UTA Career Development Center for Career Lab - Navigating the Science Career Landscape: Tools and Tactics for Success. This session offers an overview of career development strategies and information about job options for students with science degrees. Food will be served.
The Department of Mathematics hosts the 24th UTA Calculus Bowl, which features teams of area high school students competing in a quiz bowl format to answer a series of difficult calculus questions as they seek to win the coveted championship trophy. A limited number of seats will be available for those in the UTA community who would like to attend and cheer on the participants.
