Kate Thompson receives UROP Fellowship

June 23, 2025

Kate Thompson (BA Theatre Studies '25) has been awarded a UTA UROP Fellowship for Fall 2025. This competitive program connects UTA students with faculty researchers as collaborators and assistants.

Kate will serve as dramaturg and assistant director for the Fall 2025 production of Passage under the mentorship of Dr. Sebastian Trainor, Associate Professor of Instruction and area head for Theatre Studies. The 2018 Christopher Chen play, Passage is a loose adaptation of E. M. Forster's 1921 novel, A Passage to India, staging a contemporary take on the legacies of global colonialism. In addition to rehearsing actors when needed and conducting historical research, Kate will design and direct an immersive pre-show audience experience with several of the production's performers. Kate will also take part in a semester-long professional development program, receive fellowship funding, and present in an end of year research poster presentation.

The BA program at UTA Department of Theatre Arts and Dance offers classes in dramaturgy, directing, and playwriting for majors in all Theatre programs.
