Chris Martinez is a music educator in his fifth year of teaching and third year as an Assistant Band Director at Moe & Gene Johnson High School in Buda, TX. At Johnson, Mr. Martinez heads the marching band visual program and leadership team, conducts the Symphonic Winds and Concert Winds (Sub Non-Varsity A and B ensembles), co-sponsors the MGJ Chapter of Texas Future Music Educators, and assists with all other aspects of the band program. The MGJ Jaguar Marching Band co-lead by Mr. Martinez, is a BOA Grand National Semi-Finalist, two-time BOA Regional Champion, and a consistent BOA Regional and UIL Area D Finalist. During his time at Johnson, the Jaguar Marching Band has grown to 275+ members and continued its tradition of excellence, and his concert ensembles have achieved consistent superior ratings at the UIL concert and sight-reading evaluation.

Prior to his appointment at Johnson, Mr. Martinez served as an Assistant Band Director at Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, TX, and graduated summa cum-laude from the Texas State University School of Music with his Bachelors of Music degree in Music Studies. While at Texas State, Mr. Martinez served as Saxophone Section Leader and Drum Major for the TXST Bobcat Marching Band, Principal Saxophonist of the TXST Wind Symphony, and President of the TXST Collegiate Texas Music Educators professional organization. Outside of his collegiate performance experience, Mr. Martinez spent time competing in the Drum Corps International World Class circuit. During his time in DCI, Mr. Martinez served as a Drum Major for both Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps, and the ten-time world champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Martinez currently resides in Austin, TX where he enjoys spending time with loved ones, eating great food, and learning from great friends.
