George Ishii is an Associate Director of Bands at Marcus High School. Prior to his appointment at Marcus, Mr. Ishii served as Assistant Band Director and Jazz Band Director at Granbury High School, where he was an instructor for the “Pride of Granbury” Pirate Marching Band, Concert Band, and Pirate Jazz Band. Before his time at Granbury High School, he was a Graduate Assistant at Texas Christian University where he earned a Master of Music in Wind Conducting with a 4.0 GPA under the tutelage of Professor Bobby R. Francis. In addition to his coursework, he assisted with many aspects of the TCU Bands, including instruction and logistics for the Horned Frog Marching Band, the TCU Basketball Band, and the undergraduate conducting courses, as well as rehearsing and conducting the TCU Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band in concert performance. Prior to his time at TCU, Mr. Ishii served as the Assistant Band Director at A.C. New Middle School in Mesquite ISD.
Mr. Ishii obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Arlington where he studied clarinet under Deborah Fabian, Kenneth Krause, and Dr. Cheyenne Cruz, along with conducting under Dr. Douglas Stotter, Dr. Clifton Evans, and Dr. John Zastoupil. While studying at UTA Mr. Ishii served as Drum Major for the Maverick Marching Band, played alto saxophone with the Jazz Orchestra, and held the principal clarinet chair in both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra.
An active performer in the DFW area, Mr. Ishii is a founding member of the Dallas Asian Winds under the direction of Jung-Moo Lee and has previously performed with the Carrollton Wind Symphony under the direction of Jim McDaniel.
Mr. Ishii and his wife Alana (also a band director) live in Fort Worth, Texas, along with their Shiba Inu, Koji.
