My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that social work education must be transformative, inclusive, and grounded in both theory and lived experience. As an educator, I strive to create learning environments that empower students to become critical thinkers, ethical practitioners, and advocates for social justice.
I approach teaching as a collaborative process that honors the diverse identities, experiences, and perspectives students bring into the classroom. Whether teaching in-person, online, or hybrid formats, I prioritize accessibility, cultural humility, and active engagement. My instructional strategies include case-based learning, reflective writing, and community-based assignments that connect course content to real-world practice. I also integrate research and policy analysis to help students understand the structural forces that shape individual and community well-being.
My experience teaching across the BSW curriculum—including courses in Human Behavior, Social Policy, Field Seminar, and Diverse Populations—has deepened my commitment to preparing students for generalist practice. I emphasize the development of core competencies outlined by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and I regularly assess student learning outcomes to ensure alignment with accreditation standards. I also bring a strong background in curriculum development and online pedagogy, which enables me to tailor content to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Beyond the classroom, I view mentorship and advising as integral to student success. I have supported transfer students, first-generation college students, and adult learners through academic advising, leadership development, and career planning. These experiences have reinforced my belief that teaching extends beyond course delivery—it is about cultivating a sense of belonging and purpose in every student.
Ultimately, my goal as a social work educator is to inspire students to become agents of change in their communities. I am committed to fostering a learning environment that reflects the values of equity, service, and innovation—principles that align with the mission of the university and department.
