Maria and Ard

The University of Texas at Arlington proudly announces that Dr. Ardeshir Anjomani and Dr. Maria Martinez-Cosio, esteemed faculty members in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA), have been awarded the distinguished title of Professor Emeritus. This honor recognizes their decades of excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university and community.

Their emeritus appointments will take effect on September 1, 2025, and will be formally recognized during the Fall Meeting of the University Faculty on October 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Rio Grande Ballroom.

In letters to each professor, UTA President Jennifer Cowley emphasized that “appointment to emeritus status is not automatic in The UT System; it is recognition that you have served with distinction and honor throughout your career.” She added, “I join [your colleagues] in acknowledging your impactful contributions to The University of Texas at Arlington and in thanking you for your service to our students, institution, and community.”

Dr. Martinez-Cosio described the recognition as “the perfect capstone to a journey that began as a first-generation college student.” She added, “It’s an honor that carries real weight because it’s earned, not given, and I’m truly humbled by this recognition.”

For Dr. Anjomani, the title marks a meaningful milestone after 45 years at UTA. “It is a profound honor that truly marks the culmination of my career,” he said. “While my formal duties may be winding down, my commitment to the university remains strong.”

CAPPA Dean Dr. Ming-Han Li praised both honorees for their leadership and mentorship, noting that “their legacy will continue to inspire scholars, students, and practitioners for years to come.”
